The Dystopian Post
Hi!
Last month I've finally completed a piece called The Dystopian Post.
The Dystopian Post pictures a dystopian future where technology advancements and human greed are deemed more important than our environment and human values. These headlines and articles may be imaginary, but they are based on actual news and current events.
The idea of making an (imaginary) newspaper page didn't come right away. Initially, I only planned to make one (imaginary) headline with one illustration, but I realized that there were so many things in this world that I wanted to cover. So I compiled them and turned them into a full page, covering many aspects in life, including environment, literature, and politics.
I started this with a rough sketch on a paper. Then, a digital sketch.
I had read long ago about AI journalist, so I included that in this piece. I had also read the dystopian book Fahrenheit 451 last year (which, to me, was very eye opening), so I included that. I also thought it would be funny to make book recommendations for both robots and humans, so I made one. However, my prior knowledge about the main idea was pretty limited, so I had to actually do some research in order to write some of the news, e.g. the salmon one!! Somehow, I loved the researching part.
Making this piece also forced me to practice layouting and copywriting. Honestly, I'm not very good at the former, so this one took me HOURS to layout. I guess I prefer copywriting more than layouting!
The next step was cleaning the sketch.
I still made changes during the finishing process, because some things just didn't click. I decided to pour some color, to 'age' the paper, but at the same time, to make it seem less serious. Because some news actually look like real jokes nowadays HAHA.
Here's the final artwork (to zoom, left click > right click > open image). I hope you like reading newspaper!
This blog post is written by AI journalists. ☺
