Ephemera: The Singapore Philatelic Museum
Hi again!
While I was organizing my files earlier today, I found old travel photos taken from my previous phone. They were taken at the Singapore Philatelic Museum a few years ago. So far, this was one of my favorite museums in the world (that I've ever been to). I personally believe it was partly because there were two ongoing exhibitions when I visited: The Little Prince on the first floor and You've Got Mail on the second. I really love and get excited about art and illustrations, unique museums, The Little Prince, postage stamps, and snail mail in general. So, GUESS HOW EXCITED I WAS!!!
Let's start with The Little Prince. The photos might not do the whole experience enough justice, but I sincerely hope that they suffice, and that you'd be able to see just how wonderful it was.
I actually wanted to sketch inside the museum because there were just so much things I'd like to draw on my sketchbook. Unfortunately, I only had a limited amount of time (because we needed to go somewhere else after this), so I tried to live in the moment as best and as fast as I could. I thought I could just draw from the pictures later.
Let's move to the second floor: You've Got Mail, along with The Graceful Envelope, and another small exhibition named All About Dogs (which I would totally forget about if it weren't for the brochure that I kept).
The Graceful Envelope is a worldwide contest hosted every year. All of the entries exhibited here were so incredible. As for You've Got Mail, they displayed so many unique (not only the design, but the materials as well) stamps that I didn't know existed.
In reality, there were actually so many stamps here that I didn't take photos of. There were stamps made of other unique materials like leather and Swarovski, the same material used for UEFA footballs, and khadi cloth. Those that could be turned into pop-up stamps. Those with braille. Those that smelled like chocolate and coffee. Anything you can possibly imagine!
There were also some traditional stamps with cool designs, of course. I also like them a lot, especially those with childlike illustrations.
Writing this blog post really makes me miss exploring new places!! It also reminds me that one of my goals/ pursuits in this life is to visit as much unique/ unconventional museums (of things that interest me) as I can. They're scattered all over the world and I'm already keeping a list, even though right now that dream seems sooooo faaaarrrr awaaaaay and unlikely to happen.
Good night,
Emily
